How to take care of your artwork

  1.   Handle with care

Always handle your oil painting with clean hands and avoid touching the surface directly.
Use gloves if necessary, especially when moving or transporting the painting.

  2.   Avoid direct sunlight

Sunlight can cause the colors in oil paintings to fade over time.
Hang your painting away from direct sunlight or use UV-filtering glass if it's in a sunny room.

  3.   Control humidity and temperature

Extreme fluctuations in humidity and temperature can damage oil paintings. Ideally, maintain a stable environment with moderate humidity (around 40-50%) and temperature (around 65-75°F or 18-24°C).

  4.   Dust regularly

Dust can accumulate on the surface of the painting, dulling its colors and attracting pests.
Use a soft, dry brush or a clean, lint-free cloth to gently remove dust from the surface. Avoid using cleaning products or water unless absolutely necessary.

  5.   Avoid moisture

Keep oil paintings away from areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms and kitchens, as moisture can cause mold growth or paint damage.

  6.   Frame properly

If your oil painting is unframed, consider framing it to provide additional protection. Choose a frame that complements the artwork and use archival materials to prevent damage from acids and other harmful substances.

  7.   Store properly

If you need to store your oil painting for an extended period, ensure it's wrapped in acid-free paper or cloth and stored in a climate-controlled environment. Avoid storing paintings in attics, basements, or other areas prone to temperature and humidity fluctuations.

  8.   Avoid touching the paint surface

Oils from your fingers can transfer onto the painting's surface, leading to discoloration or degradation over time. Handle the painting by its edges or use gloves when necessary.

  9.   Inspect regularly

Periodically inspect your oil painting for any signs of damage or deterioration, such as flaking paint or cracking. If you notice any issues, consult a professional assistance for advice on restoration or conservation by sending an e-mail at contact@rima00.com .
